From Proof of Existence, 2013 Aloha kākou, this is @brendangeorgeko taking over Paper Journal this week. For this takeover Iʻll be going over the past decade of projects I have worked on. To my father returning to China was both an act of confronting as well as finally making his return. Here he was on his journey home, after five decades. The photograph of him there, and in the years to pass, will exemplifies his return, that his body was planted in place in the physical space that was forbidden, too far away, and unattainable. But the photograph is only a representation to this moment, supplementary to his experience and there as proof. The one moment out of much more, it is a tiny splinter of life — there as a guide, and nothing more.

Upon first glance ✨ Getting up at 4am to be first through the gates was worth the 10 minutes of solace and these popcorn skies ☁️ ⠀ ⠀ To be honest, prior to visiting the Taj Mahal, I didn’t understand what the big deal was, but now I get it…⠀ ⠀ The way it changes color depending on the light, how it seems to appear large at first glance, then shrinks as you get closer, the fact that it took 22 years to build and that it was built by the emperor for his wife, who died during her 14th childbirth.
